As I am using StumbleUpon to browse my interest, I came across the picture of the London 2012 Olympics. They were named Wenlock and Mandeville. Its design looks like a one-eyed alien with taxi lights on the head of both mascots. I think it's kinda weird to have a mascot like that. Its very far from its predecessor the cuddly Fuwa, which is the official mascot of the Beijing 2008 Olympics.

I don't like them that much... I think Fuwa were much beautiful... but well who knows, maybe at the end of the Olympic Games this Summer we will be all happy with these mascots.
ReplyDeleteRegards from Barcelona.
@Aiketa yeah, me too. It's too futuristic to be cuddly. And its 1 eye is very disturbing. lol

I think they are pathetic...and the names...even worse . I can't immagine the others thay had discarded

The mascots are ok and are much better than the other mascots. They also represent something to do with the olympics, not like some other mascots, and I think they're cute. Well, it's just my opinion :)
ReplyDeleteone eyed mascot may be that's why they made two of them, funny names though.
ReplyDeleteAnd don't forget the cameras for eyes - London is the CCTV capital of the world!
ReplyDeleteDoes nobody else think that these mascots look like beer bottle openers??? Seriously, how drunk and stoned where the creators? Or maybe just desperate?
ReplyDeletethe names reflect the history of the games. Wenlock is named after Much Wenlock where the idea to restart the modern Olympics came from, and Mandeville is named after the town of Stoke Mandeville where the surgeon first tried out sport as a way to help spinal cord victims to recover, rather than just stay in a bed. they took a bit of getting used to but they are modern, refreshing and reflect the nature of a modern olympics!
