A friend recently told me that he saw the picture I've posted on my facebook. Its about my New Year's resolution to quit on my smoking habit. At first, I've tried to keep that resolution. Every year, I produce a sadly familiar repertoire of aspirations dealing with that bad habit. I always mean well, but it's clear that I lack firmness of purpose.Well, to my mind, that's the essence of New Year's Resolution. It's a wet sponge, slurping up the black marks of the past, leaving a clean slate for the future. That resolution on quiting smoking, to my everlasting shame, fold by February --- the spirit is willing, but the flesh loses its temper. Still, it's not the breaking of resolutions that counts so much as the making. To make a resolution is to travel hopefully, to reach beyond one's grasp, to try a better life-style on for size, just in case --- this year --- I've finally grown big enough to fit into it.

DeleteI had similar resolution as well and although I didn't manage to quit, I now only smoke a pack per week. That's a few packs lesser than back then =) Astro accidentally revealed government manipulation of media from response to BBC?
ReplyDeletethanks for visiting my blog sir. I love reading your blog http://www.colourlessopinions.com because it makes me feel closer to Malaysian.
Deleteas for that "resolution", I wish there's an easier way to do it... hehehe
even though you didn't succeed on quitting smoking, I must applaud you because you manage to cut it back.
Thks for dropping by Shirley's Luxury Haven! You've an interesting blog here.
ReplyDeleteWell, I certainly don't encourage smoking. Nice share!
thanks for stopping by Blackswan...
Deleteme to, I do not promote smoking as I am trying to quit this bad habit
I quit making resolutions when I realized na meron lang talagang tao na made to do them. I'm not one of them.
ReplyDeleteWhen I set a goal or a resolution, tapos, I fail, I tend to let myself go and quit trying at all.
Just-do-it strategy works better for me. When I fail. I brush it off and try again. Dati kasi naghihintay pa ako ng new year ulit :P
Pero 2 packs a day yun e. :D
Deletetake your time you can do it..step by step :D even one of my friends, he got over drugs solely by himself without entering the rehab
ReplyDeletethanks for the encouragement mate....
DeleteBad habits really die hard. I remember how my dad struggle to quit smoking. It was tough, but he had to 'cause his lungs are starting to get weak. With dedication, strong support system and prayers, he did manage to quit smoking. Slowly but surely. i wish you luck on this,it's gonna be hard.
ReplyDeleteall the best in quitting smoking.. anyways, it was bad for health also~
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful way of thinking about the making and breaking of these resolutions. I gave up making any a while ago as then there are none to break and I can't become disappointed in that I've broken them. Anyway, good luck with your resolution.
ReplyDeletePS. I love the way the comments get put into speech bubbles.
ReplyDelete@eprilis thanks for the good insiht. that might be the path I'll take. to slowly but surely quiting my smoking habit.
ReplyDelete@Mr. Lonely thanks for visiting my blog mate. and yeah, thanks for reminding me the health risk of smoking :) I think I need to start doing that resolution once again.
ReplyDelete@Mr. Lonely thanks for visiting my blog mate. and yeah, thanks for reminding me the health risk of smoking :) I think I need to start doing that resolution once again.
ReplyDelete@Petty thanks for the compliment. I like your idea of not making a resolution so that there wouldn't be any to break.
ReplyDeleteHmmm, I just got an idea to chronicle my journey on quiting smoking here in my blog. How about that?
(I love those comment bubbles too. I'm experimenting this kind of template and I need to edit its html code to put back the reply button on comments. I just change my blogger template this afternon and run out of time to fully edit it. I hope you like my blog's new appearance)
i tried to get my ex to quit, and she was doing good.. until we brok up, bad habits came back. lol.. even thought he was tight in the pocket, he still manage to save on others to buy packets.. zzz..
ReplyDeleteAwww... it'll be great if you can stick through it ;)
ReplyDelete@Jamie yeah, to finally fit in on that overdue resolution. but I haven't started quitting yet. I'll go to my doctor tomorrow to ask some advice and I'll start from there
